Playa del Carmen events December 2012

Normally we post two months at a time on our events update, but December is so jammed packed with things to do we are doing to list December events in Playa del Carmen and the Riviera Maya separately. December is a big month for us in Playa, and January, with New years and the BPM festival happening makes January 2013 also a big month. If you missed our October and November Playa del Carmen events listings check it out here so you can join in last minute on local and national events that we love!

Playa del Carmen Events December 2012

December 1, 2012 – Tulum Music fest for those looking for something to do in the Riviera Maya. This event takes place at the Casa de Cultura (Cultural Center) and will be fun, bringing you into the local and residential feel of Tulum. It starts at 6 pm and you can take public transportation to Tulum right to the Center where it will all be happening.

December 1-13, 2012 – Playa del Carmen Book Fair held by the Municipal Government will continue into December 2012. Located on 6th street between 10th and 15th Ave. You can find books about the Mayan culture, spanish books and who knows, there may just be some English and foreign language books at the Fair.

December 2, 2012 – The annual Andale Rummage sale is a Huge Playa del Carmen event that everyone can enjoy. Held twice a year, the December sale is a Christmas sale, with local artists, second hand clothing, eco and sustainable products on sale for everyone! It is crowded, it is fun, there are great bargains and it is a not to be missed event! People look forward to this event all year long!

December 12 2012 – This is the Day of Guadalupe, El Dia de Senora Guadalupe, the most treasured Saint in Mexico. The real celebrations are in Tulum but if you are driving on the highway you will see runners from all over the state of Quintana Roo and the Yucatan running through a relay to Tulum. The trucks are decorated and runners have torches just like the Olympics, super great to see, just take care on the highway.

December 16, 2012 – This is the first day of Mexican posadas, where families open up their houses for pre-Christmas parties the 9 days before Christmas. It is a long tradition and a fun one, with some businesses opening up their doors to also celebrate this tradition.

December 21, 2012 – The day we have all been waiting for! The final day of the Mayan calendar and the anticipated …..something. We are not sure what to expect this day, and there are few planned events. If anything it would be a good day to go to the beach, reflect and think about what this means to you. watch for potential events at Xcaret where there are regular traditional celebrations of the Mayan culture.

December 22, 2012 – Winter solstice – Many yoga studios participate in 108 sun salutations to welcome in the new seasons. Join hundreds of yoginis in the community celebration and be as one for 108 yoga poses.

December 24 /25, 2012 – Christmas menus have not been released yet, but all over the city of Playa del Carmen, there are dinner specials on both nights as Christmas is celebrated on the evening of December 24 in Mexico but we all know that many North Americans celebrate December 25, 2012. Carboncitos will be releasing their Christmas dinner specials soon!

December 31, 2012 – This is the event of the year in Playa del Carmen with special dinners planned all over the city and the main event at 12th street and 1st from 11:30 pm to whenever….If you are not into crowds, there are many places to enjoy a quiet, uneventful New Years either by yourself or as a couple. Parties will be announces shortly and we will include then in a separate post so you are well informed on the Local parties, both big and small.

Off the Vine playa del carmen events thursday wine tasting

There are some businesses that have ongoing weekly events that are a must see or do.

Off the Vine – Ricardo has a Thursday night wine tasting each Thursday at 7 pm. Locals and visitors attend and the entertainment is entertaining. With their new restaurant now open, their wine and tapas menu will be sure to please anyone who attends.

Wah Wah’s and Zenzi’s – Sundays are a big beach day in Playa del Carmen, and two popular beach clubs have afternoon and early evening Beach BBQ’s with an all you can eat option for that lazy, hazy Sunday afternoon. Grab a beach chair, a plate and a fork and dig in. Music is also a part of each of these beach clubs with Wah Wah most famous for their live bands.

Caminarte – Stroll 5th Ave every Thursday as local artists line the avenue with their art and images. You can purchase on the spot or admire the work of artists from around the world.

Parque la Ceiba – This is Saturday fun for the entire family, where kids can participate in activities, parents can browse and shop eco and sustainable crafts and food, and the all day event will have everyone ready for bed early. The Park is located on the other side of the highway, starting at 10 am and closing at 6 pm.
