About a year ago Celine and her team of French pastry chefs arrived in Playa del Carmen from Provence, France. We think they brought them about a thousand or so recipes from the area, some french flour (there is a difference really) and just a great concept for visitors! They rock it and we have the waistline to prove it! No more Chez Celine for us for a while, or at least not until I have next croissant fit, which could end up being....right...now!
French bakery in Playa del Carmen
People ask where we go to eat, to drink, to chill as full time residents of Playa del Carmen. Well Chez Celine...
There is a famous quote, the devil is in the details and though we are NOT the devil we sure do love the details. Any hotel can provide a bed, a roof and some towels. Any tour guide can take you to a destination site and walk you around. Anyone can serve up a cup of coffee, fruit and yogurt for breakfast. But not everybody looks closely at the details of each of these experience. Not everybody takes the time to think through the little details that will make every moment, just that much better.
Details, details, details...

Enough about the hotel. Most people know who we are, what we offer our guests and where we are located, Playa del Carmen, Mexico just south of Cancun and on one of the most desired beaches in North America. One block from the hotel is the Mexican Caribbean, the ocean, the blue blue sea that is shown in so many vacation photos. The water really is that blue and we really are just 2 steps, 2 big steps!
Mexican Caribbean and the Riviera Maya is an experience
We can tell you all about it but the Mayan Riviera really needs to be experienced. Photos help but when you stand outside the doors of the hotel...
Just like the song, ch-ch-ch-changes have happened at Hotel Cielo. New amenities are in, the rooms had had a bit of an up-grade. We don't know what we were waiting for, but the wait is over! It has been fun designing these changes and finding the exact items that we think will be appreciated and noticed. WE have thought about our guest experience seriously and we are happy with the result.
Strange Fascination - with sleep
Call us odd but we do have a strange fascination with bed sheets and towels including the sleep experience. The new cotton sheets and towels are marvelous! They are nothing...
Oh Mexican food, our favorite, we crave it and we do love it! There are a few dishes we love and thought we would share them with you. Some are on the menu at Carboncitos, some are not. 1. Chiliquiles - This is true Mexican nachos that is normally served for breakfast but has been known to turn into an all day breakfast item. Think nacho chips, green or red salsa, Oaxaca cheese all mixed together so the nachos chips soak up the salsa and combine...
Everyone knows that a bad nights sleep is a drag. Having a bad nights sleep while on vacation, even worse. There are some things we can not control that have us up half the night, but there are some things that we can control to ensure we get our recommended nights shut eye ( 6 hours when you are working, 10 hours when on vacation!) Beds are a hotels greatest asset
As travelers we know the difference between a bed, a good bed and a great bed. The best investment any hotel can make is a great bed and pillows. Pillows are pretty personal but a great mattress will please everyone. Take your...
This information is a result of a typical day at Hotel Cielo. A guest had one day to experience Playa del Carmen, and everyone pitched in to tell them their favorite thing to do. 1. Visit a cenote and hang out in the jungle. Miguel our day receptionist is passionate about the cenotes. There is a list of about 5 great cenotes and you can pick one or all of them depending on the amount...
The hotel was built almost 20 years ago and most of the details were chosen for us. Ceramic tiles, wall arches and design accents were inherited, we did not choose them. But we did preserve them! It is nice to think we did all of this ourselves, but credit must be given to the wonderful woman who built the hotel...while she was in love. Yes her inspiration came from a deep love for her partner and her love is felt throughout the hotel. What attracted us to the hotel and continues to be a topic of conversation with guests, are the ceramics. Ceramic tiles, ceramic sinks, more ceramic tiles and more...
