Merry Christmas to me! Aerial view of Playa del Carmen

We had a nice Christmas present from friends in December. Due to some unfortunate events, our friends could not make their trip to Chichen Itza by plane! Yup, you got it, they were going to fly in a little puddle jumper to Chichen Itza, tour the ruins and then hop back to Playa all in about 6 hours! The morning they were supposed to fly we got a phone call asking if we wanted their plane trip for the morning as they could not make it. Ummmmm, yeah! So off to the Playa airport we went and had a great aerial tour of the Riviera Maya coast! What a breath taking view and what a wonderful experience! Viewing...

Family fun in Playa del Carmen – things for the kids to do

My newphews are coming down to Mexico to hang with us for 9 days, 9 whole days! As a childless family here in the Riviera Maya, things for kids to do in Playa del Carmen are not on the tip of my tongue. I did a bit of digging and a lot of reading and found a bunch of fun things for kids and familys to do in the Mayan Riviera and Playa del Carmen. I just may be the favorited uncle yet! Family things to do in the Mayan Riviera Maya Here is the list that we came up with for the three little ones. 1. Crococun Zoo - This is the crodile zoo in Puerto Morelos where kids can see first hand...

Happy New Year!! Playa del Carmen was hopping New Years Eve!

Happy New Year everyone! News Years day and new Years eve was an eventful time in Playa del Carmen but we brought in the New Year on the Hotel Cielo Rooftop! This celebration had all of us away from the parties that seemed to be endless all over town and provided all of us, guests, staff and the friends, a little oasis away from it all. The conversation seemed to surround what life in Playa del Carmen is like as a resident, not a guest and an interesting observation was made. We don't go to the beach enough! We live in paradise and we forget, really, forget to go to the beach. So we are making...

Vacations can boost creativity and work – Try Playa del Carmen

We are inspired each day by our business due to its location, the people we meet and the new solutions we create each and every day. It is work but our work day is never, ever the same. This changing work day never has us lose our creativity, our desire or our inspiration, but we know that not everyone is as lucky as we are. We never thought of vacations as a way to boost your creativity and productivity but we just came across an excellent video that tells you just that. Now we need to put in a disclaimer. This video talks about talking a year off, and if you can do that, great. But little...

Playa del Carmen Vacations – changing perceptions and attitudes

Yes we offer hotel accomodations in Playa del Carmen but our job goes much deeper than that. Time and time again we are learning that our job is to change perceptions, change attitudes and bring a real experience to our guests so they truly understand what Mexico is, what if offers and why so many people choose to live and work in this great country. Where is all of these thoughts coming from? We re-read a guest review lately, that speaks directly to this topic. When we first started reading the review we were a bit worried. The guest speaks about taking one of our recommendations to eat at a very...

7 things to do on a rainy day in Playa del Carmen, Mexico

It is true, we have rainy days in Mexico.  Though it seems a sucky day when it rains, it really is a great day as you can do other things than go to the beach, or walk around.  Playa Del Carmen has fun things indoors, but considering that most people want to be outside, very few know about these indoor things to do. Switch your beach umbrellas for a land umbrella and start enjoying Playa del Carmen in a different way! What to do on a rainy day in Playa del Carmen 1.  Go to the movies.  There are two movie theatres, in Centro Maya and Plaza Las Americas.  For non Spanish speakers, it is a perfect...

Playa del Carmen inspired Halloween costumes

October 31 to November 2 are important holidays in Mexico. The expates in the community gather at various locations for some fun filled Halloween parties. The costumes are outragous, creative, detailed and extraordinary. Halloween has been a popular event in the Playa del Carmen area for many years as it hooks onto the Mexican celebrates for Day of the Dead, a traditional and cultural celebration of the dead in all parts of Mexico. Day of the Dead honors the dead, with families creating alters for dead relatives who are invited back into the home for sweet bread, fruit, and the dead relatives...
